The Pupil Premium Grant is additional funding given to schools and academies to:
It was first introduced in April 2011. Since then the amount schools and academies receive has increased. Schools and academies will receive funding based on the number of pupils who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years (Ever 6).
At Leigh Beck Junior School we fully support the ‘closing of the gap’ or ‘diminishing the difference’ agenda which fuels the allocation of Pupil Premium money. Every child deserves to achieve of the best they can be.
We can support children in the provision we provide. For us, academic achievement is very important as this offers life chances- it opens doors to potential futures careers and a sustainable existence in our society. However, we very much also believe in the importance of giving children experiences that might be outside of their current life experiences. Both are ‘aspiration-linked’ in terms of widening opportunities and in enabling children to be able to access further possibilities in their futures.
With these principles in mind we allocate our Pupil Premium funding to a range of activities which we aim to have an impact on achievement and on aspiration. Some activities support the child to be in the right place to learn- for example nurture support for physical and emotional needs. Others are directly linked to targeted interventions or Quality Additional Teaching to increase progress and thus aim to improve attainment.
The primary PE and sport premium (“the premium”) will be paid by the Secretary of State for Education (“Secretary of State”) to the academies and free schools as stated in section 14 of the Education Act 2002. In accordance with Section 16 of that Act, the Secretary of State la down the following terms and conditions on which financial assistance is given in relation to the premium payable for the academic year.
The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. Information on how much PE and Sport Premium fund primary schools receive and advice on how to spend it has been published.
At Leigh Beck Junior School we fully support the agenda which fuels the allocation of Sports Premium money, where it is promoted for all children to have access to high quality PE.
We wish to aim to ensure that PE and school sport are embedded within wider school life at Leigh Beck Junior School.
Every child deserves to achieve of the best they can be and to have equality of opportunity regardless of what their parents or carers can access.
We can support children in the provision we provide.

Through sport we can provide experiences that are ‘aspiration-linked’ in terms of widening opportunities and in enabling children to be able to access further possibilities in their futures.
